Advanced Stage FAQ

How do I advise Kaplan as to which exam preparation (EP) course I wish/I wish my students to attend?
If you want the EP course to be rescheduled to August to align with the September examinations you do not need to do anything. This will be done automatically for you.

If you would like to maintain the dates within your existing study schedule then we will need to be advised of this.

In situations where students are sponsored and the decision on course dates sits with the employer, we ask that the employer contacts us via their account manager or clientservices@kaplan.co.uk.

In situations where students are not sponsored and choose their own dates, students should contact Student Services to let us know: 0161 259 7400 option 2, option 4 or email aca-studentservices@kaplan.co.uk

Timetables

August Advanced and September Professional courses

Please note that you are still able to book onto our ACA courses. Due to the restrictions currently in place, as it stands, we plan to run our August Advanced and September Professional courses via Live Online but we will continue to review opportunities to bring these courses back into the classroom. For details of course dates please see our ACA interim live online timetable. If you were originally booked on to a classroom course, our interim timetable can be used to identify the live online dates that your classroom course has been mapped to. View our interim timetable.

ACA 2020 Student Pathways

The cancellation of June Professional sitting and the postponement of the July Advanced sitting has led to many students having to defer their exams to later in the year. Understandably, this has raised questions about the ways in which students will progress with their ACA studies once they make use of the forthcoming September and August Advanced sitting, The table below outlines how we intend to support our clients and students to maintain the impetus of their study pathways.

The two main methods we have used to optimise progression are:

  • Looking at delaying start dates of the next courses to allow for delayed exams to be sat before the next courses commence (“AFTER EXAMS” courses)
  • Creating a more intensive option for those who would prefer exam results to be known before progression commences (“AFTER RESULTS” courses)

In some cases, where the timings are simply too tight, our advice is to sit subsequent exams in 2021 and we have designed courses to ensure that momentum is not lost (“DELAY”)

September Professional Progressions

Papers sat in September Preferred progression in December Kaplan Solution
FAR/AA TC/FM AFTER EXAMS: We have ensured that all December classroom based TC/FM/BST/BPT courses commence after the September exam sitting to allow for student progression.
AFTER RESULTS: For those who want to wait for results release before starting their next course to the December sitting, we will also deliver intense live online variants of TC/FM/BST/BPT that commence after the September results release date.
FAR/AA/TC FM/BST/BPT
TC/FM BST/BPT
FM/BST/BPT CR/SBM AFTER EXAMS: Given the short time period between the September exam sitting and the subsequent November exams, we will be delivering some intensive November CR/SBM courses that start after the September exams.
Please note that in order to facilitate this, the Knowledge and Application course phases will be delivered live online followed by the delivery of Exam Preparation in your location of choice.
London 2:2:2 and London Eve & Weekend FAR/AA London 2:2:2 and London Eve & Weekend PTX/MI/TC/FM Students on this pathway would normally sit their next set of Professional Level Exams in December 2020. This will not be possible as there is not enough time between the September and December exams to accommodate the course.
DELAY: We would recommend that students on this pathway sit their next Professional papers in March 2021 instead. We are running a course that starts in November 2020 to accommodate this pathway.
London Evening and Weekend BST/BPT London Evening and Weekend CR/SBM/ACS Unfortunately the time period between the September Professional exams and November Advanced exams is not sufficient to accommodate our usual London Evening and Weekend Advanced course.
There are two alternatives for students in this situation:
DELAY: Defer their Advanced studies until July 2021
AFTER RESULTS: Sit our intense live online CR/SBM course to the November 2020 exam sitting. Please note that this course is not evening and weekend in terms of structure but it does provide a more immediate progression opportunity.

August Advanced Progressions

Papers sat in August Preferred progression in November Kaplan course support provided
CR/SBM ACS AFTER EXAMS: In order to facilitate progression, we will be delivering a comprehensive suite of November ACS courses that commence after the Advanced August exam window.

Note:
Unless otherwise stated, we plan to deliver the courses in the classroom but ultimately, the course delivery method will be dependent on demand and how the UK government determines what social distancing measures are necessary. We will keep you updated should we need to convert the courses to live online delivery and trust that we have your support should we need to do so.

Deferral Arrangements

We recognise that some of the course solutions outlined above involve students commencing their next course before they have received their September exam results. If a student does not subsequently achieve a pass in their Sep exams we will honour any required course deferrals to the March Professional / July Advanced sitting.

The ICAEW are also evaluating the opportunity to offer March exams under the 2020 syllabus which may further help to smooth the deferral journey.

Course dates and timetables

We wanted to provide you with this information at the earliest opportunity to aid planning. To support this further, we aim to have a revised set of ACA timetables that reflect the above available soon. We will update you when these timetables are published.

Workbooks, open book texts and ICAEW textbooks

What will be sent in the post?
You will receive all the material you were expecting on the classroom course which includes a workbook, ICAEW textbook and any relevant Open Book Texts.

A large amount of our ICAEW textbooks were in centres waiting to be given out in class. We are in the process of getting these sent back to our warehouse but in the meantime you may find you get a partial delivery and the ICAEW textbooks will follow a week or so later.

How can I be sure you are sending material to the correct address?
We are asking all students to inform us of their current address before we can send out materials. Students are asked to complete this form. We will only use this data for the purpose of sending the materials.

End Point Assessments

Some learners were due to sit my End Point Assessment (EPA) in the next few months, what do the exam cancellations mean for the Apprenticeship?

Level 7 Apprenticeship completion/End Point Assessments are reliant on the case study exam, this has been delayed but only by a month so hopefully this will not cause any major issues.

The CFAB June EPA sitting has been cancelled. ICAEW will instead offer a revised sitting later in the year. Talent coaches will reach out to learners in the next few weeks if they haven't already to discuss the situation for each specific learner.

Who is best to contact for help and advice?
