Let’s help you get to work

There’s lots of noise in the news about an uncertain future for young people, particularly with the prospect of getting on the career ladder and finding their first job.

We want to help and change that course of direction.

That’s why we’ve developed a Kaplan Accounting Foundation Scholarship 2020 to provide opportunities to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to learn and develop skills, giving them a boost to kick start their career.

What is the Scholarship?

The AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) is a professional membership body, known for awarding skills-based accountancy and finance qualifications. Their Foundation level qualification is recognised worldwide and is viewed in the Accounting world as the first step on the ladder.

We’re offering ten 12-month scholarships to start studying the AAT Foundation Level online, via our Brighter Future partners, Career Ready, LTSB and NewGen Accountants and with Kaplan directly.

Each scholarship is worth just over £1,900 and covers the cost* of the full AAT Foundation level OnDemand course, including hard copy study materials, exam fees, and full AAT Membership for the first 12 months.

The Foundation level is made up of five subjects which you would study and prepare for an exam at the end of each of them. These exams can be sat at a Kaplan location across the UK.

Our award winning OnDemand course provides you with the best of both worlds - a structured yet fully flexible online learning programme, putting you in control of when and where you study. You’ll also get access to our Academic Support team seven days a week, so they are on hand to answer any questions you may have during your study programme.

All we need from you is the commitment and drive to do it, and to allow us to stay in touch to see how you are progressing with your learning and any job opportunities that you have been able to take advantage of.

The benefits of studying AAT Foundation

You’ll learn practical real-world accounting and finance skills, such as:

  • Understanding and demonstrating basic financial transactions
  • Managing budgets
  • Recording day-to-day transactions and basic costing
  • Reporting and making recommendations
  • How to use Xero Accounting software

The knowledge you gain will lay the foundations and equip you for a future in business, wherever you choose to work.

Who is the Scholarship suitable for?

We’ve created the scholarship to make a difference to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, giving them the opportunity to improve their skills and enhance their chances of starting a career in the accountancy profession.

If this sounds like you, (e.g. you were eligible to receive free school meals), then this scholarship may be for you.

Are you good with numbers and like solving problems?

To start studying AAT Foundation Level, you don’t need to have any prior experience working in Accounts. There are no entry requirements as such, but it is recommended that you have good maths, IT, and English skills, and have a willingness to learn. For the scholarship, we’re looking for applicants to have at least 5 GCSEs or equivalent at grade 4 or C and above, including Maths.

You would also need access to a computer or tablet at home or library to log in to the online courses.

Interested in applying for the Kaplan Scholarship?

Great, let’s get started

We want to help you get started as soon as possible. To be in with a chance, you’ll need to complete** a short application form and record a video by 27th August 2020.

As well as a few details about you and your interest in a career in accountancy, we’d like you to record a short video of yourself (no longer than 2 minutes), telling us:

  1. What your career aspirations are
  2. Why you want to improve your skills

Once you’ve done this, upload your video to YouTube and set the video visibility to unlisted, so only those with the link can ever see it, and add the unique URL link to your application form.

Good luck!

We will notify successful scholarship winners on Monday 14th September 2020.
