Following a recent announcement from the CIOT and ICAEW, students can now achieve both the ACA and CTA qualifications together via the new 'Owner Managed Business' (OMB) route.
This effective pathway provides rigorous coverage of the syllabus, whilst allowing students to accelerate the achievement of the joint qualification.
Students are able to replace their Business Planning Tax exam with the CTA Advisory OMB paper. The next stage is the completion of the ICAEW Advanced Stage in the normal manner to achieve ACA.
The CTA can then be gained by sitting just one further CTA paper and an e-assessment in Professional Responsibilities and Ethics.
The OMB paper will be available from the May 2016 sitting. Students need to be enrolled with CIOT by 31 December 2015 if they want to do the exam in May 2016. For November sittings students must enrol by 30 June 2016.
Please see the link below for more detail on the OMB route, Kaplan's recommended pathways under the new route and details of Kaplan's CTA course coverage.

The OMB paper in May 2016 will be the first sitting for this new route. Please note, the CIOT has confirmed that if a student registers with them by 31 December 2015, they can move onto the new route even if they have already taken BPT (please see our guide for the suggested routes). This is a one-off transitional rule and will not be repeated at later sittings.
