Accountancy or Taxation Professional (Level 7)

The gold standard in Accountancy Apprenticeships, this programme is designed to develop apprentices into fully competent, confident and credible finance professionals. Developed in partnership with globally recognised institutes, employers, and firms of all sizes, a Kaplan Accountancy apprenticeship is anything but standard.

This apprenticeship is ideal for organisations looking to develop the talent of future finance leaders and for aspiring Accountancy and Taxation professionals looking to excel their career to the top of their profession.

If you’re seeking to maximise the benefit of time used as part of off-the-job training and develop technical excellence coupled with sector relevant skills that can be directly applied to the role, this apprenticeship might be the right option for you.

This apprenticeship is suitable for a wide range of roles including: Financial accountant, Management accountant, Tax accountant, Tax adviser, Tax specialist, External auditor, Internal auditor, Financial analyst, Management consultant, Forensic accountant and Business advisor, but this list isn’t exhaustive.

One of the key things to success is that the job role and Line Manager provide the opportunities, support and relevant work based projects to be able to contextualise and apply the apprentice’s learning back in the workplace, to gain real competency in that area.

Upon completion, individuals will be able to apply for membership of the professional body relevant to the qualification pathway they have taken. They will also be able to undertake continuous professional development to enhance their career and stay up to date with any changes in the profession.

Regardless of age or prior attainment, anyone can do an Apprenticeship provided they’re learning new skills and are employed in England, in a relevant role. Kaplan will support you to assess the job role suitability as part of your application.

Employers may specify that candidates have at least a grade 5 GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English. If apprentices don’t have this level of Maths and English, Kaplan offers free resources and support to make sure they develop their understanding and application of these subjects by the end of the apprenticeship. Learners starting their apprenticeship without Level 2 in maths or English will complete a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification.

The funding band for this apprenticeship varies depending on the pathway chosen.

If you pay the apprenticeship levy, the following costs apply:

  • Accountancy Professional apprenticeship (ACCA, CIMA, ACA pathways): £21,000
  • Accountancy or Taxation Professional apprenticeship (ACA/CTA pathway): £21,000
  • Taxation Professional apprenticeship (CTA pathway): £19,500

Apprenticeship funding

Employers can get government support to fund up to 100% of apprenticeship training. The amount available can depend on the size of your organisation, whether you’re a Levy payer or not, and whether you are employing a young apprentice. Find out more.

Routes available

Our Accountancy or Taxation Professional apprenticeships combine specialised technical knowledge with additional online learning and work based experience to develop the necessary skills to build capability and credibility that can be directly applied in the workplace.

There are a variety of pathway options with end point assessments for industry leading professional bodies including ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, CTA, and ICAEW/CTA, depending on the chosen career paths.  

ACCA

The ACCA pathway is suited to individuals working in a role that has the responsibility for accountancy and auditing, taxation, and financial management. If all assessments have been passed and work experience requirements completed, learners will also gain ACCA chartered certified status, becoming a Chartered Certified Accountant.

CGMA

The CGMA pathway is ideal if the individual’s role involves business partnering across other functions within your organisation. Topics within this pathway include: business accounting, management accounting, and strategic marketing management .If all assessments have been passed and work experience requirements completed, learners will also gain CGMA Professional qualification and become a Chartered Management Accountant.

ACA

The ACA Pathway is well suited to individuals working in an accountancy practice where their role and future career path will involve working in management accounting, business analysis, audit, taxation or forensic accounting. If all assessments have been passed and work experience requirements completed, learners will also gain ICAEW Chartered status as a Chartered Accountant.

CTA

The most prestigious chartered qualification in professional tax, learners will develop an overall understanding of tax whilst being able to specialise in a particular tax area. This pathway includes optional access to Kaplan Tax Apprenticeships Plus.

This also includes access to additional practical, vocational online modules, relevant to the tax profession, developed in partnership with Mercia Group.

ACA/CTA
ACA/CTA

This joint ACA/CTA pathway offers apprentices a professional development route in accountancy and taxation, with the opportunity to specialise in one of three areas of taxation. If all assessments have been passed and work experience requirements completed, learners will achieve two prestigious qualifications together, becoming a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor.

Pathway structure:

  • Complete all ACA Certificate and Professional exams with exception of ACA Business Planning Tax (BPT)
  • Sit a CTA Advanced Technical exam in place of the ACA Business Planning Tax (BPT) exam - either Advanced Technical Taxation of Larger Companies and Groups (LCG) or Advanced Technical Taxation of Owner Managed Businesses (OMB)
  • Complete all ACA Advanced Level exams
  • Pass one further CTA Advanced Technical exam or the CTA Application exam
  • Pass the Professional Responsibilities and Ethics CBE. This must be passed before you have entered for your last CTA exam.

Attending scheduled classes in one of our training locations or via Live Online, apprentices benefit from the wealth of technical expertise and practical sector experience of our expert tutors. Classes are interactive and discursive, giving learners quality time with tutors and sector peers to support the development of their knowledge and skills and bring new perspectives to their thinking.

Self study
Innovative skills development

To complement the vital technical training, apprentices receive access to a series of online modules designed to support the development of sector relevant skills at the right time for their job role. Set within the context of familiar financial sector settings, learners are challenged to think about their role and the critical skills they need to develop to have a successful career as a finance professional. The modules give apprentices a safe place to think about topics such as:

  • how they interact with others and build trusting teams
  • supporting less-experienced colleagues to build capability
  • what it means to act professionally and take ownership
  • how bias can impact professional judgement
  • presenting financial data so that it resonates with their audience
  • how to act as an effective business partner and add value
  • their role in building a sustainable profession.

Through discussion with their talent coach and line manager, apprentices will be directed to these modules at the most optimal point in their programme and depending on the specific needs of their job role. Their talent coach will then support the ongoing development of these skills in the workplace during progress review meetings.

Optional modules covering core Microsoft products, over 100 hours of online tuition supports learners in preparing for Microsoft accreditations. Globally recognised, our tuition and exams available at Associate and Expert levels will equip apprentices with the skills to unlock the potential of Microsoft Office products.
