Overview

The Data Analyst apprenticeship is designed to equip individuals with the skills to unlock the power of data. Through this apprenticeship, learners gain technical proficiency in a range of core technologies and platforms, including Excel, SQL, Tableau, Power BI, Python, and R programming language. They learn the entire data process, from requirement-gathering, inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and modeling data, to developing crucial communication and visualisation skills to translate insights into informed and smarter decision-making.

Eligibility

Regardless of age or prior attainment, anyone can do an apprenticeship provided they’re learning new skills and are employed in England, in a relevant role. Kaplan will support you to assess the job role suitability as part of your application.

To do this apprenticeship employers may specify that candidates must have at least a grade 4/C GCSE (or equivalent) in maths and English. If apprentices don't have this level of maths and English, Kaplan offers free resources and support to make sure they develop their understanding and application of the subjects by the end of their apprenticeship.

Apprentices typically have one of the following:

2 A Levels or International Baccalaureate or any other Level 3 qualification such as a BTEC Extended Diploma
A Level 3 Apprenticeship
12 months of work experience in the last 24 months if they do not have any other Level 3 qualifications

Months 1-3

Data Analysis Fundamentals

This period focuses on the completion of the "Data Analysis and Visualisation" module, providing foundational skills in data analysis and visualisation using Excel.

Transforming and reporting data.
Data visualisation using Excel.
Identifying data trends and using this to inform decision-making.

Months 3-6

Data visualisation and AI Integration

This stage develops skills in self-service Business Intelligence, covering data connection, cleaning, shaping, and creating interactive visualisations. It also introduces the use cases of Generative AI for data-driven roles.

Connecting to data sources.
Performing data cleaning, profiling, and shaping.
Visualising data with Power BI.

Months 6-9

Advanced Analysis, Statistics, SQL, and Data Modelling

Apprentices deepen their analytical capabilities by covering statistical analysis, handling complex and large datasets, and utilising Python and SQL for analysis and modelling purposes.

Key skills:

Understanding the fundamentals of Statistical Analysis.
Using Complex Statistical analysis to analyse complex and large data sets.
Using Python to query data and use various analytical tools.
Using SQL to perform various functions, including queries, joins, subqueries, sets, and managing tables.
Data modelling and designing databases.

Months 9-12

Introduction to Data Science with Python and R

Apprentices gain a solid foundation in using Python and R for complex data analysis.

Key skills:

Introductory Data Science Concepts.
Usage of tools such as Python and R for complex data analysis.

Months 12-15

Data Challenge and EPA Readiness

This period involves integrating learning from all modules and applying it in work-based projects to demonstrate overall competence as a Data Professional.

Key skills:

Holistic competency demonstration as a Data Professional
Consolidating skills and knowledge for EPA, including portfolio submission.
