Advanced Credit Controller and Debt Collection Specialist (Level 3)

A central role to many types of organisations, an Advanced Credit Controller will be setting policies, working with both internal commercial teams and external customers to ensure the cash flow of a business is maximised while achieving fair consumer outcomes.

This programme is designed to enable an apprentice to develop and apply the core knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress and be successful in what is often a fast paced, target driven and customer facing role.

Developed in partnership with globally recognised institutes and employers and firms of all sizes, a Kaplan apprenticeship is anything but standard. This Apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with The Chartered Institute of Credit Management (CICM), the largest recognised professional body in the world for the credit management community.

Ideal for supporting the credit control talent pipeline within your organisation, this apprenticeship is ideal for new starters in your business who are just leaving school or college, or for existing employees with limited experience who are looking to build their skills in this essential role. It is well suited to individuals who are enthusiastic and self motivated to work in a varied role at the centre of an organisation’s operations.

If you’re seeking to maximise the benefit of time used as part of off-the-job training and develop technical excellence coupled with sector relevant skills that can be directly applied to the role, this apprenticeship might be the right option for you.

This apprenticeship is suitable for a wide range of roles including Finance Controller, Collections Agent, Collections Advisor, Credit and Collection representative but this list isn’t exhaustive.

One of the key things to success is that the job role and Line Manager provide the opportunities, support and relevant work based projects to be able to contextualise and apply the apprentice’s learning back in the workplace, to gain real competency in that area.

An apprentice’s journey doesn’t end when their apprenticeship has finished. Next steps could be to progress further within more specialist areas of the Financial Services and Accountancy sectors.

Regardless of age or prior attainment, anyone can do an Apprenticeship provided they’re learning new skills and are employed in England, in a relevant role. Kaplan will support you to assess the job role suitability as part of your application.

To do this apprenticeship, employers may specify that candidates have at least a grade 5 GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English. If apprentices don’t have this level of Maths and English, Kaplan offers free resources and support to make sure they develop their understanding and application of the subjects by the end of the apprenticeship.

Learners starting their apprenticeship without Level 2 in maths or English will complete a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification.

Included within this apprenticeship

Our Advanced Credit Controller and Debt Collection Specialist apprenticeship programme integrates four modules of technical training with work based experience. This ensures that learning and skills are directly applied to the apprentice’s role, and maximises the time used as part of off-the-job training.

Kaplan works in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Credit Management (CICM) to deliver this apprenticeship. For each module, learners will receive study text and sample questions and benefit from attending approximately 10, two hour, live interactive virtual classroom lessons. Access to tutor support via email or telephone is also provided.

This apprenticeship also enables apprentices to work towards achieving a Diploma in Credit Management, consisting of four exams.The CICM also offers an assignment based route, please speak to us for more information and how we can tailor this programme for your employees and your organisation.

Apprentices learn about the concepts, processes and techniques that underpin best practice across a range of credit environments.

Accounting Principles

Apprentices build a solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles and techniques.

Business Environment

Apprentices learn about the economy, organisation management, the market environment, and economic influences on organisations.

Business Law

Apprentices learn about the legal context and structures in which business operates through the development of knowledge about the English legal system, contract law, agency, and sales and supply of goods legislation.

Innovative skills development

To complement the technical training, apprentices receive access to a series of online modules designed to support the development of sector relevant skills at the right time for their job role. Set within the context of familiar financial sector settings, learners are challenged to think about their role and the critical skills they need to develop to have a successful career working in finance. The modules give apprentices a safe place to think about topics such as:

  • Using a range of tools and demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and cultural awareness when dealing with internal and external customers.
  • Applying a transparent and objective manner in all actions and interactions to ensure that they meet the ethical requirements of the profession.
  • Organising work effectively and achieving required results within deadlines.
  • Performing professionally in pressurised situations and escalating appropriately when necessary.
  • Communicating to all stakeholders to aid decision making to add value to the organisation, within the responsibility of the position.
  • Maintaining high standards in a changing environment.

Optional modules covering core Microsoft products, over 100 hours of online tuition supports learners in preparing for Microsoft accreditations. Globally recognised, our tuition and exams available at Associate and Expert levels will equip apprentices with the skills to unlock the potential of Microsoft Office products.
