Entry requirements
We recommend that you have completed the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting before starting this qualification. Learners should ideally have completed the Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements (FAPS) and Management Accounting Techniques (MATS) units, or have equivalent knowledge and experience.
If you have a university degree in accountancy, or related, we recommend that you move straight onto ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
Learning outcomes from the course
You will enhance the skills you developed from Level 3 as you learn to produce limited company financial statements, apply complex management accounting techniques, understand taxation for taxpayers in the United Kingdom (UK), and explore the importance of internal controls within an organisation. You will also develop your understanding of real-world business challenges and opportunities.
The course is made up of five compulsory units. You must pass all the exams to achieve the qualification:

Principles of Taxation – understanding taxation for taxpayers in the United Kingdom (UK)

Advanced Business Awareness – examining real-world challenges and opportunities in the business environment
If you successfully complete this qualification, you can apply for AAT full membership (MAAT). If you're thinking of starting your own practice, you'll also be able to apply to become an AAT Licensed Accountant or Bookkeeper.
