Community

Getting involved and giving back to the community is something we strongly believe in, and we are committed to creating a culture that encourages our employees to share their skills, expertise and resources to enrich the local communities in which they live and work.

How we give back to the community

We give every employee the opportunity to volunteer for two days per year, during work hours, to support a local cause close to their heart. Activities range from practical projects such as local decorating or gardening initiatives, companionship activities and skills based projects including teaching, CV and interview skills and bookkeeping for charities.

What our employees are saying

Marianne Cosgrove

“I helped a children's charity called Wood Street Mission by sorting through clothes, toys and books which are then passed on to the families they support through their community shop.”

Matt Rawlins

“I am a volunteer lifeboat crew for Calshot Royal National Lifeboat Institution. I used my time off to attend a Crew Training course including sea survival. As well as doing this I also am on call every weekend and every night, in one of the busiest stations in the country.”

Sharon Elvidge

“I am a leader for cub Scouts and regularly use my volunteering time when I take my cubs to camp. This year cubs have been in existence for 100 years so we are taking over the entire local campsite with cubs from surrounding areas and will be camping for three days.”

Richard Sealby

“Five of the marketing team went to Dove Stone Reservoir to work with the RSPB taking out old iron fences and then building a wooden dam out of logs to encourage wildlife. It's the second time we have been here and we recently found out that our previous work had helped them win awards.”

Fundraising events

Our company-sponsored fundraising activities focus around a national event, with a different theme each time. Previous activities have included the Three Peaks Challenge, Kaplan’s Got Talent, Kaplan Commonwealth Challenge, Kaplan Factor and our most recent event Hit 10,000 – where we have challenged each of our centres to contribute towards raising over £10,000 through various localised fundraising activities.

Gifts in kind

With the range of resources available to us, we are able to provide support to charities in other ways beyond raising money. This includes charitable usage of our classroom space, and providing scholarships, skills training workshops, and mentoring to support disadvantaged higher education students.
