Internal Audit Practitioner (Level 4)

Internal Audit is designed to help organisations take a holistic and systematic approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk, control and governance processes. This apprenticeship programme is ideal for those who are newly appointed to an internal audit role or existing internal audit staff who’d like to improve their knowledge and understanding of internal audit whilst also developing the important skills and behaviours within their everyday role

An apprenticeship in internal audit is a real job with structured training, enabling individuals to progress in their career with the option to also work towards the IAP Internal Audit Practitioner designation.

Developed in partnership with the Institute of Internal Auditors and employers and firms of all sizes, a Kaplan Accountancy apprenticeship is anything but standard.

Ideal for professionals looking for a solid grounding in Internal Audit, typically working as part of a team. Individuals taking part in this apprenticeship could be employed in public, private and voluntary sectors. The knowledge, skills and behaviours developed throughout this programme will ensure individuals are competent in undertaking all aspects of internal audit engagements.

If you’re seeking to maximise the benefit of time used as part of off-the-job training and develop technical excellence coupled with sector relevant skills that can be directly applied to the role, this apprenticeship might be the right option for you.

The remit of an Internal Auditor can span the whole organisation, meaning they can assess the adequacy and effectiveness of all areas across an organisation including risk management, compliance and finance. Typical job roles can include Internal Auditor Trainee, Entry level Internal Auditor, Internal Auditor, but this list isn’t exhaustive.

One of the key things to success is that the job role and Line Manager provide the opportunities, support and relevant work based projects to be able to contextualise and apply the apprentice’s learning back in the workplace, to gain real competency in that area.

The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is the recognised professional body for internal auditing in the UK and Ireland. The apprentice can apply for membership of the Chartered IIA at the outset of the Apprenticeship.

An apprentice’s career journey doesn’t end when this programme has finished. With an appropriate role that can demonstrate significant new learning, the next steps could be to progress onto a Level 7 Internal Audit Professional apprenticeship.

To do this apprenticeship, IIA entry requirements state learners must have an appropriate job role working in internal audit, with at least 6 months of experience and are employed in England. Kaplan will support you to assess the job role suitability as part of your application.

The Internal Audit Practitioner is a Level 4 apprenticeship. Learners would be expected to have two A-Levels/equivalent or suitable work based experience.

Employers may also specify that candidates have at least a grade 5 GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English. If apprentices don’t have this level of Maths and English, Kaplan offers free resources and support to make sure they develop their understanding and application of the subjects by the end of the apprenticeship. Learners starting their apprenticeship without Level 2 in maths or English will complete a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification.
