Kaplan wins ‘Best Use of Technology in Training’

We are thrilled to announce that Kaplan has won the prestigious 'Best Use of Technology in Training' category at the Apprenticeship and Training Awards (ATA) for our Open Question Feedback initiative.

This accolade underscores our commitment to harnessing cutting-edge technology to transform the educational landscape and enhance our learners' success.

Open Question Feedback

Innovation is at the heart of everything we do, and our Open Question Feedback initiative is a perfect example of this. The tool leverages Generative AI (Gen AI) technology to provide personalised and real-time feedback to learners studying ACCA. We have integrated AI-generated feedback directly into our online learning modules, revolutionising how learners engage and progress through their course.

The Open Question Feedback ensures that Kaplan learners receive immediate, personalised insights into their written responses to open-ended questions - empowering them to refine their answers while actively engaging in their studies.

Key benefits

  • Immediate, personalised feedback: learners receive instant, tailored feedback to open-ended questions, allowing them to improve their answers without delay and increase the frequency of the feedback they receive.
  • Develops learners’ higher level skills: designed to tackle questions requiring advanced critical analysis and reasoning, using tailored prompts and Kaplan’s content to ensure accurate, trustworthy feedback.
  • Highly scalable: the system can handle high volumes of student responses simultaneously, which could not be achieved with human feedback alone.
  • Quality assured: the feedback tool has been refined to match or surpass the quality of human feedback.

Implemented across 13 subjects within the ACCA qualification, the initiative has already impacted over 4,500 learners, marking a significant step forward in leveraging AI to enhance student success.

Enhancing learner engagement and success

As the feedback has been meticulously refined to match or surpass the quality of human feedback, learners can quickly understand their mistakes and make improvements promptly - promoting continuous learning and self-assessment. By iteratively refining their answers, students engage more deeply with the material, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills.

A survey told us that 77% of learners found the AI feedback 'useful' to 'very useful,' with 78% of learners rating it at least as 'good as human feedback.' The majority of learners desired AI feedback in future learning modules, reflecting satisfaction and trust in this technology.

One learner said: “ It’s a brilliant tool to help students think more deeply about topics and construct great answers.”

Future plans

Building on the success of the Open Question Feedback initiative at the 2025 Apprenticeship and Training Awards, we plan to expand the use of AI feedback across a wider range of programmes and qualifications to benefit more learners. We are committed to staying at the forefront of educational technology and are exploring a range of key initiatives to enhance the learning experience. This includes the improvement of AI capabilities, making feedback more intuitive and actionable, and providing personalised learning guidance. We also plan to invest in further training and development for our educators so they can maximise the impact of these technological innovations.

Overall, Kaplan is dedicated to staying at the forefront of educational technology and providing our learners with the best possible learning experience. Our commitment to innovation, adaptability, and learner success will continue to drive our efforts to integrate technology to enhance learner outcomes and engagement.

Winning the 'Best Use of Technology in Training' award is a testament to the business's hard work and dedication. We look forward to building on this success and continuing to revolutionise the learning experience for our learners.
