As part of their digital transformation journey, the finance division of a leading public service broadcaster in the UK wanted to harness the power of AI to improve productivity and decision-making. But with teams experimenting independently, there was a need for greater alignment and confidence.
To address this, the organisation partnered with Kaplan to deliver an AI for Finance workshop - building foundational AI literacy and uncovering real-world use cases tailored to finance.
The challenge
The finance team faced three key challenges:
- Fragmented understanding of AI tools: Professionals were experimenting with different approaches without a shared strategy.
- Uneven confidence levels: Some team members were apprehensive, while others were early adopters.
- Difficulty identifying relevant use cases: Limited access to advanced AI tools, such as Microsoft 365 (M365) Copilot, made it hard to connect AI capabilities to real-world finance tasks.
“The workshop levelled the playing field and set us up to grow together.”
The solution: Kaplan’s AI for Finance workshop
In response to these challenges, we held the AI for Finance workshop to provide the broadcaster’s finance team with a hands-on, collaborative, and tool-agnostic learning experience.
The day’s agenda included:
- Demystifying Generative AI (Gen AI): Building understanding of what AI can and can’t do.
- Mastering prompt engineering: Practising the ‘art and science’ of effective prompting.
- AI in action: Exploring finance-specific scenarios such as data analysis, commentary generation, and report writing.
- The THINK framework: Kaplan’s proprietary model for responsible and effective AI use.
“What stood out was how everyone had a voice, it truly brought the teams together.”
The workshop was delivered by Kaplan’s Data and Technology specialists, creating a safe and supportive environment for experimentation.
The impact
We caught up with the team after the workshop, and the results were overwhelmingly positive:
- 81% of attendees said they felt more confident using Gen AI after the workshop.
- Participants rated the day as ‘excellent’ and ‘good’ across the board.
- The most valuable modules were ‘prompt engineering,’ ‘finance use cases,’ and ‘the THINK framework.’
- The session generated an impressive 47 new AI use cases, demonstrating how quickly ideas could flourish when the right structure is in place.
Speaking to Kaplan’s Director of Growth, Matt Rawlins, the Head of Finance Technology Transformation at the organisation shared how “participants found the day engaging, collaborative, and energising.”
In addition to this, the Head of Transformation provided their feedback:
“I thought it was a really productive day. I think it landed well with the teams, and the trainers brought some real-life use cases which were easy to relate to, and people were really engaged in the session.”
Ultimately, the workshop didn’t just deliver skills - it set the foundation for the broadcaster’s next stage of AI development.
