Overview

The courses are designed to cover topics that are assumed knowledge in the relevant CTA Advanced Technical paper that have not been covered in the ACA papers, completed as part of the ACA/CTA joint programme.

There are two courses available and you should choose based on which your first CTA Advanced Technical paper is going to be. That will either be Taxation of Owner-Managed Businesses (OMB) or Taxation of Larger Companies and Groups (LCG).

The course will build on the knowledge you gained whilst studying ACA Tax Compliance and also introduce you to the core topics that are examined as part of your CTA Advanced Technical paper.

Owner Managed Business (OMB)

The course will recap and top up your knowledge on tax law and regulation and help you calculate the tax consequences and provide advice for owner-managed businesses.

  • Taxable trading profits and capital allowances
  • Basis periods
  • Trading losses
  • Capital gains tax introduction
  • Rollover relief
  • Incorporation relief

Taxation of Larger Companies and Groups (LCG)

The course will recap and top up your knowledge of tax law and regulation and help you calculate the tax consequences and provide advice for larger companies and groups.

  • Corporation tax basics and capital allowances
  • R&D and intangible fixed assets
  • Property taxes
  • Losses and reliefs
  • Gains groups
  • Overseas aspects of corporation tax

Exams

You won’t have to sit assessments. This course is purely to fill in any missing knowledge you may have before starting the CTA portion of your joint programme.
